Foreword by Siddharth Dhanvant Shanghvi
During one of the largest, forced exodus of workers, Vijaya and her colleagues at the Goa Humanitarian Helpline mobilised to action a safe, dignified retreat for hundreds of workers rendered jobless or without a home, overnight, in a pandemic. I found myself applauding her industry and humanity. So when asked if I might loan her a book or two I jumped with delight to support her fine work with the Good Karma Treasure Shop, a super sale of pre-owned, environment sensitive goodies. Part proceeds of the sale will benefit WAG. Atul Sarin, founder of WAG, is an icon among Indian animal rights activists. How lucky I am to know my heroes, and how wonderful if you might know them, too, and pitch in with this totally decent and thoroughly honourable endeavour. I often feel overwhelmed by the things that call for our attention – everyone, I see, is suffering in secret ways – but perhaps sometimes we need only to stop by and give with prayer, thought or deed.
